CM announces compensation for farmers lost crops, schools shut

AGARTALA, November 17 2023: Normal life and business in Tripura became a standstill Friday in wake of incessant rains coupled with cyclonic storm. The state government has declared closure of all educational institutions Saturday in view of rough weather that likely to continue for few more days.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha who is currently stationed in New Delhi to discharge official engagements has responded with a compensation package for the farmers whose crops got spoiled. “The government will compensate in accordance to the rules the farmers whose crops damaged due to ongoing natural calamities”, he made a statement in social media.
Flight operations to and from Agartala’s MBB Airport were cancelled and passengers stranded in the airport.
The rains and hostile weather are result of the cyclone storm “Midhili” over northeast and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal.
The India Metrological Department (IMD) in a statement informed “Midhili” moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 26 kmph laid centered at 8 am Northwest and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal near latitude 20.8°N and longitude 89.0°E, about 250 km east-northeast of Paradip (Odisha), 180 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal) and 180 km southwest of Khepupara, Bangladesh.
“It is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast close to Khepupara with wind speed of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph during night of November 17”, it informed and added that an increase in rainfall activity accompanied with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely to occur over Tripura during November 17 and 18.
