AGARTALA, July 19, 2024: The veteran leader of Tripura CPI(M), Samir Chakraborty, has passed away at the age of 72. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha offered his condolences and paid tribute to Chakraborty at his residence.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that he and his family had a personal relationship with Chakraborty for many years.
Despite once being a powerful leader, Samir Chakraborty had become isolated within the party in recent years and was left with an insignificant position.
Pabitra Kar, a senior CPI(M) leader and former Assembly Deputy Speaker, also expressed his grief over the loss of a “dedicated leader of the party”. Kar noted that Chakraborty began his political journey as a student activist and served as the state President of the SFI from 1981 to 1989.
