Death toll could increase as more people are trapped, PM condoles

NATIONAL, August 14, 2025: A massive cloudburst hit a remote mountain village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district Thursday killing at least 46 people including two CISF personnel. The death toll could increase as more people are trapped and 120 people have been rescued so far, reports said.

The condition of 38 is said to be serious. Authorities have mobilised more rescuers including two fresh teams of NDRF to intensify rescue operations.

The disaster struck Chositi, en route to Machail Mata temple, which was a popular destination for the annual Machail Mata yatra.

The Prime Minister has expressed shock over the death of many people and announced monetary assistance to the families of victims.
