AGARTALA, April 12, 2025: Sale Sale Sale Chaitra Sale! The Chaitra Sale is currently taking place in various shops, street sides and stores in Agartala with only two days left before the Bengali New Year - Nababarsha. The capital of Tripura state keeps up with the times; several shopping malls have opened.
The people of Agartala have also adopted the trend of window shopping. In celebration of the Chaitra Sale, the malls are offering huge discounts on various items, particularly clothes, drawing large crowds.
However, the Chaitra Sale, which is traditionally held on the roadsides of Agartala, still surpasses the malls in its grandeur. The sale is in full swing on Shakuntala Road, with shopkeepers on all sides of the road selling a variety of clothes and offering sales despite the scorching sun.
The streets from Post Office Chowmuhani to Kaman Chowmuhani, Orient Chowmuhani, and in front of Rabindra Bhavan are bustling with the Chaitra Sale, and discounts can also be found in various shops throughout Agartala. Even one of the oldest markets in the capital, Hawkers Corner, is participating in the Chaitra Sale.
However, this event does cause traffic jams and inconvenience for those trying to move around the city. A few years ago, the government attempted to relocate the Chaitra Sale to Agartala Children's Park, but due to protests from traders and low sales, it was eventually allowed to continue on the streets.
Despite the introduction of shopping malls, a large portion of the people of Agartala still prefer to purchase their New Year's clothes and household items from the Chaitra Sale on the city road. This tradition has stood the test of time and will continue to do so in the future.
