REGIONAL, July 18, 2025: Union Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar Friday completed a two-day official visit to Meghalaya to evaluate and speed up development projects in the North East. He met with state officials and district administrators to review the implementation of government schemes focused on infrastructure, social empowerment, and livelihood programmes.
Gurjar asserted that the Government of India aims for a developed India, stressing the need for progress in remote areas like Meghalaya.
He highlighted the importance of better coordination between the Centre and the state, effective digital monitoring, and proper use of funds for timely and transparent project execution. Gurjar reviewed flagship programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the Lakhpati Didi initiative, and the Jal Jeevan Mission, acknowledging the success of these schemes while also highlighting the need for grassroots feedback for policy improvements.
He discussed the establishment of Tribhuvan Sahkari University, the first Indian university focused on cooperative education aiming to train professionals in cooperative management. Gurjar also said that the goal of creating two lakh new multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies in two years.
On the final day, he noted challenges with land acquisition for infrastructure projects and recognised the progress made by the Meghalaya administration amid a decrease in violence in the region under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.
