GLOBAL, June 01, 2025: Bangladesh's controversial International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) Sunday indicted deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two others on charges including mass murder for their role in the violent crackdown on student-led protests last year. The prosecution charged Hasina with exercising absolute authority to suppress the uprising, while the other two were accused of provocation, complicity, abatement, instigation and facilitation.
The prosecution claimed that “the attacks were a coordinated, widespread and systematic attack”. The prosecution will submit video, audio and forensic evidence during the trial, and 81 people will appear as witnesses, reports said.
The tribunal's investigation agency named Hasina as the instigator of the killings during the uprising that ousted her government. The interim government ordered the disbandment of the party until the trials of its leaders were completed.
The proceedings were broadcast live on television for the first time in Bangladesh's history. The former Prime Minister faces multiple cases and arrest warrants from the ICT-BD.
