AGARTALA, April 15 2022: Bangladesh put forwarded a proposal to open another bus service route to connect Tripura as visa protocol is getting normalised due to improvement in coronavirus situation. State’s transport and tourism minister Pranjit Singha Roy informed that they have received a proposal from Bangladesh government to operate a passenger bus between Chattogram (Chittagong), country’s largest port city via Comilla in southeast of the country, and Agartala.
Roy stated that discussions between the central governments of both countries are required to settle the issue. The state government will also deliberate with the centre on the matter, he added.
Bangladesh and India launched direct bus services between Agartala and Dhaka, and Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka in 2003 and 2018 respectively. Both the services were stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2019 and the suspension continues.
Decision has now been taken to resume Agartala – Kolkata via Dhaka service next week.
An official of the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC), which operated the Volvo bus services, informed that the bus services from both Agartala and Dhaka would resume as pandemic situation was on the wane and visa protocol started getting normalised. Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) had outsourced a private agency ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ to run Dhaka – Agartala daily bus service.
