Bangladesh mulling lockdown amid Covid-19 fear

DHAKA, March 18, 2020: Bangladesh government has spoken on an ultimate option to declare lockdown to prevent spread of coronavirus. Its Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Wednesday said lockdown could be enforced if situation demands.
He contended that ‘People must be saved first’ for which government will do everything.
Bangladesh reported first coronavirus death Wednesday. Number of positive coronavirus cases in the country rose to 14.
Quader, a close aide of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is also the General Secretary in ruling Awami League party.
He stated the lockdown is a process other countries enforced to contain the epidemic.
The Minister added that suspension of inter-district bust services was under consideration.
He admitted some lacuna in test and detection mechanism citing ‘the country had no prior experience in the matter’ and urged all to put forward suggestions to achieve perfection.
Bangladesh government confirmed detection of 14 coronavirus cases till Wednesday.
