NATIONAL, October 18, 2024: The Union Cabinet has approved the auction of 730 FM Radio channels in 234 cities under Batch III of the FM Phase III auction. This initiative will bring a new and enhanced listening experience to radio audiences in cities that were previously not covered by private FM radio stations.
Since its modest inception in 2001, private FM radio has expanded to 113 cities with 388 channels, significantly contributing to the media landscape. This new expansion is expected to generate new jobs in the radio sector while providing entertainment through radio for listeners across the country.
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has released a Notice Inviting Applications from prospective bidders for the e-auction of 730 channels across 234 cities.
The Notice is available on the Ministry's website at https://mib.gov.in/sites/default/files/NlA 140ct2024 Final.pdf
