Anuparna Roy wins Best Director at 82nd Venice Film Festival

GLOBAL, September 07, 2025: Indian Anuparna Roy won the Best Director award in the Orizzonti section at the 82nd Venice Film Festival for her film “Songs of Forgotten Trees”. The award was announced by Julia Ducournau, President of the Orizzonti jury.
Jim Jarmusch won the Golden Lion for Best Film for his film “Father Mother Sister Brother”, which explores family dynamics and generational tension. The Silver Lion runner-up award was given to “The Voice of Hind Rajab” based on a Palestinian girl's story.
Toni Servillo won Best Actor for “La Grazia” while Xin Zhilei won Best Actress. Benny Safdie won Best Director for “The Smashing Machine”.
