REGIONAL, June 24, 2024: The Department of Social Welfare in Nagaland launched an online competition to combat substance abuse. Director Tosheli Zhimomi highlighted the state's struggle with substance abuse, with hundreds of young people affected.
The department launched programmes to prevent drug abuse and educate people about its harmful effects. The competition, aimed at the 13 to 25-year-old age group, is part of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Deputy Director Wango Langsym stated that Nagaland has over six lakh substance abusers, with 37,000 children and 17,000 females.
The event was graced by Miss Northeast 2023, Kenei Ritse, Miss Nagaland 2023, Neiketuno Sechű and Miss Nagaland 2022, Hikali Achumi. The competition will be conducted in three categories: creative writing, poster making, and reel making.
