Agartala–Kolkata via Dhaka bus service to resume
Leaders, officials of both countries to grace recommence programme

AGARTALA, June 09 2022: Agartala-Kolkata direct bus service via Dhaka will formally resume tomorrow. The recommencement will take place after two years of the stoppage due to Covid-19 pandemic,
Tripura Transport Minister Pranjit Singha Roy, senior government officials and diplomats from Bangladesh posted at country’s Assistant High Commission here will grace the flagging off programme.
An official of the TRTC which operates the Volvo bus service informed that the bus services from both Agartala and Dhaka would also resume as coronavirus pandemic was on the wane and visa protocol getting normalised. Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) outsourced a private agency ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ to run Dhaka – Agartala daily bus service.
Earlier Bangladesh put forwarded a proposal to open another bus service route to connect Tripura as visa protocol was getting normalised due to improvement in coronavirus situation. Minister Pranjit Singha Roy received the proposal from Bangladesh government to operate a passenger bus between Chattogram (Chittagong), country’s largest port city via Comilla in southeast of the country, and Agartala.
Roy however stated that discussions between the governments of both countries are required to settle the issue. The state government will also deliberate with the centre on the matter, he added.
Bangladesh and India launched direct bus services between Agartala and Dhaka, and Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka in 2003 and 2018 respectively. Both the services were stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2019 and the suspension continues.
