Sharad Pawar says Ajit Pawar's death in plane crash accident
NATIONAL: Sharad Pawar, the leader of his faction of the Nationalist Congress Party, has urged for the death of his nephew, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in a plane crash in Baramati to be seen as a tragic accident rather than being used for political gain.
In a video message, he described demise of junior Pawar as a big loss for Maharashtra and stated that the incident should not be politicised, despite claims of foul play from other political figures such as Mamata Banerjee.
Banerjee offered her condolences and stressed the importance of a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also described the plane crash as suspicious.
The last rites of Ajit Pawar who along with a security staff and three crew members died in the plane crash in vicinity of Baramati airport in Maharashtra will be held Thursday noon. The fatal accident sent a shock wave across the country.
