NATIONAL: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday congratulated Indian Grandmasters Koneru Humpy and Arjun Erigaisi for winning bronze medals at the 2025 FIDE Rapid Chess Championship held in Doha. Grandmaster Arjun achieved his first bronze medal with a total score of 9.5, marking him as only the second Indian male player following Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand to reach a podium finish in this event.
In the women's section, Koneru, the defending champion, secured her bronze by successfully executing an endgame against her opponent B Savitha, which enabled a draw in the match. The title was claimed by Russian Grandmaster Goryachkina, who won the first game and drew the second.
