India projected to receive its first Bullet Train in 2027
NATIONAL: Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Thursday announced that India is projected to receive its inaugural Bullet Train on August 15, 2027. The bullet train project, currently under construction, spans 508 kilometers between Ahmedabad and Mumbai with over 85% being developed on elevated viaducts; approximately 465 kilometers are underway, with 326 kilometers completed.
The initial sections to be operational will connect Surat to Bilimora and Vapi to Surat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has earlier reviewed the project, highlighting the Surat Bullet Train station's design inspiration from the local diamond industry.
The corridor will link key cities such as Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, Thane and Mumbai, significantly reducing travel time to about two hours, thereby enhancing inter-city travel and economic activity.
