BIG NEWS: Sheikh Hasina calls for general strike in Bangladesh

GLOBAL, November 13, 2025: Awami League Chief and deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced a nationwide shutdown in Bangladesh on November 16 and 17, coinciding with a significant court ruling regarding her alleged crimes against humanity. In a statement late Thursday night, she also called for protests on November 14 and 15.
Hasina thanked her supporters from various segments, including political leaders, students, teachers, artists and daily wage earners, for their involvement in making Thursday lockdown programme successful.
The Awami League's initiatives are framed as a fight to restore democracy, halt what they characterize as show trials and oppose state oppression, while demanding the resignation of Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Mohammad Yunus, whom the party labels as a "murderer-fascist."
