KISAMA, December 02, 2024: The World War II Peace Rally commemorating the historic Battle of Kohima was held at the WWII Museum Complex in Kisama Heritage Village Monday. The event saw participation from global and local dignitaries with Mitchell Theaker India Head of the Welsh Government and Partner Country Representative serving as the chief guest.
The rally envisioned by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted the importance of using history to promote peace. Abu Metha, Chairman of NAMSA and Advisor to the Chief Minister, emphasised the need to leverage the legacy of the war for fostering global harmony.
Mitchell Theaker lauded the shared bond between the Nagas and the Welsh people, urging the preservation and strengthening of this connection. He expressed hope that the event would serve as a bridge of peace and goodwill between the two communities, showcasing unity as a message to the world.
In his address Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio described the Battle of Kohima as a pivotal moment in Naga history, underscoring the devastating impact of war and the transformative power of peace. He stressed the need for Nagaland to advocate peace within the state, neighboring regions, and the global community. He encouraged the youth to sustain the peace rally initiative and affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Nagaland Flatfenders Club.

Most original vehicle went to Jeep number 6, while Jeep 1 bagged the 2nd prize and Jeep A bagged the 3rd prize. Jeep 25 won the best maintained vehicle, Jeep 11 the best weaponry, Jeep 18 won the best uniform squad and Jeep 9 the best Tourism Promotion Squad.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to peace and the celebration of unity, paying tribute to the sacrifices and resilience of those who shaped the region’s history during World War II.
