World U20 Athletics Championships gets underway

AGARTALA, August 18 2021: The 2021 under-20 World Athletics Championships got underway at the world famous Kasarani Stadium, popularly known as the Home of Heroes at Nairobi in Kenya. Owing to Covid-19 restrictions, only five persons were allowed to represent a country at the grand opening Tuesday.
Associate Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India Abu Metha was the Team Leader while India’s flag bearer was Kunwer Ajai Singh Rana who is competing in the Men’s Javelin. India has a 38 member team comprising of coaching staff and team officials.
This is the first time that an Indian Athletics team to the World Championships is being led by a person from the entire northeast. AFI President, Adille Sumariwala attended the opening ceremony.
The five-day event will run from the August 18 until August 22 at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, capital of Kenya.
Every two years young athletes from more than 100 countries compete.
