Wanted in the large-scale Punjab National Bank fraud case

GLOBAL, July 05, 2025: The United States Department of Justice Saturday notified Indian officials that Nehal Modi, the brother of fugitive Nirav Modi, was arrested by US authorities. This arrest follows an extradition request made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Reports said the extradition proceedings involve two charges: money laundering and criminal conspiracy. Nehal Modi is wanted in India for his role in the large-scale Punjab National Bank fraud case. Investigations suggest he helped launder illicit funds for Nirav Modi, who is also fighting extradition from the UK.
Nehal is accused of hiding and moving significant amounts of illegal money through shell companies and international transactions.
A status conference for the extradition proceedings is set for July 17, where Nehal Modi may request bail, although US prosecutors plan to oppose this request.
