United Kingdom becomes Country Partner for Hornbill Festival 2025
UK artists including Scottish Ruairidh Maclean (RuMac) will perform

REGIONAL, November 18, 2025: Nagaland government and the British Council signed an agreement to designate the UK as a Country Partner for the Hornbill Festival 2025 scheduled for December 1-10. This collaboration aims to promote cultural exchanges, support creative talents, and increase global visibility for Nagaland's cultural heritage. 
The agreement was formalised by Dr Neiphiu Rio, Nagaland Chief Minister and Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director India of the British Council in New Delhi with key officials in attendance.
The British Council will work closely with the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata to curate meaningful programming, continuing its tradition of featuring UK artists, including Scottish artist Ruairidh Maclean (RuMac) who will perform on December 2, 2025. The festival serves as a vibrant platform for audiences to engage with contemporary UK music, while UK musicians can explore the region's rich cultural scene, nurture friendships and establish creative collaborations.
Dr Rio expressed admiration at the UK's participation underlining shared values and a commitment to cultural exchange that could enhance cooperation in culture, tourism, education and enterprise.
British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron highlighted the deep cultural ties between the UK and India, recalling previous collaborative performances. Alison Barrett MBE underscored the opportunity for UK artists to engage deeply with India's diversity through this partnership.
Ruairidh Maclean conveyed enthusiasm about performing and connecting with the cultural showcase in Nagaland.
Both the Government of Nagaland and the British Council aim to ensure a memorable Hornbill Festival 2025 and establish pathways for enduring cultural and educational partnerships.
