There have been widespread protests and concern across the state over the new installation move citing that the same would cut pockets of consumers.
The TSECL officials told the journalists that they have the sole authority to decide on fixing electricity meters to calculate power consumption and bills. They argued that the smart meters would be more beneficial for the consumers as they would be accurately charged and can access to multilayer information about power consumption and the bill.
They added that the smart power meter works exactly like a traditional meter, in that it measures, monitors and records energy consumption. Consumption information is directly delivered to the utility operator.
