AGARTALA, April 18, 2024: An ordinary daughter of an e-rickshaw driver will be representing her country in the upcoming Asian Grappling Championship at Tagaytay in Philippines from May 4 to 6. Priya Debnath, the daughter of a hard-earning family from Ganganagar, Dharmanagar, won a silver medal in the 4th National Open Grappling Competition held in Sonepat, Haryana in December last.
Priya, who is the only daughter of Krishnakanth and Minti Debnath, had competed in the under-20 category. The talented 12th grader has been training for about a year and is determined to win a medal in the 90 kg category at the Asian Games.
She currently trains under Coach Uttam Acharya in Yogendranagar, Agartala, and is dedicated to achieving her dream of winning a medal in the Asian Games. However the irony is Priya needs about Rs 1.5 lakh for travel expenses.
Her parents are worried about how they will come up with the money and have even considered taking a loan from a bank. They are appealing to any kind-hearted individuals or sports lovers to lend a helping hand so that their daughter's dream can come true.
Priya remains optimistic about her chances of winning a medal in the Asian Games and is working hard in her training. Coach Uttam Acharya is also confident in her abilities and is pushing her to reach her full potential.
