AGARTALA, May 13, 2024: Tripura team faced Assam counterpart here Monday in a bid to qualify for the Swami Vivekananda National Under-20 Boys Football Tournament slated for Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh. Despite a strong start, Rajesh Roy Chowdhury's team fell behind as the match progressed and ultimately lost 6-0.
The team conceded three goals in each half.
After the game, Tripura's manager Shubhenjit Sinha commented, "If Captain Amit Jamatia had not missed an easy chance in the beginning; the outcome may have been different. His through pass had a demoralizing effect on the team. Additionally, goalkeeper Pradeepta Chakraborty's performance was subpar."
Tripura's final match of the season will be against Madhya Pradesh on May 15. Interestingly in their first match against Arunachal Pradesh Tripura had a lead twice but ended up with a draw. John Jamatia scored both goals for Tripura and was named the best player of the match.
