AGARTALA, December 07 2023: Tripura BJP held its meeting of Janajati Morcha Thursday to discuss issues pertaining upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Former Deputy CM Jishnu Debbarman, two tribal ministers, state party President Jishnu Debbarman and leaders were present in the meet graced by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Though important faces of the party's tribal front were in attendance, Member of Lok Sabha from reserved East Tripura constituency Rebati Mohan Tripura could not turn up. The reason cited is his current stint in New Delhi to attend the ongoing Lok Sabha session.
Jishnu Debbarman who was defeated in the last assembly elections was the only leader who took to X to inform about the meeting. He also revealed the meeting was about the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Debbarman, a party loyalist and qualified in his own brief, contested from the reserved seats on two occasions in the past, but lost to then powerful CPI(M) rivals. The party is reportedly considering his political rehabilitation by projecting him as the candidate for east, one of two Lok Sabha segments in upcoming polls.
BJP reportedly is of the view that with fragmented opposition, it can take out both constituencies.
