Tragic: 36 killed after passenger bus falls on gorge in Uttarakhand
Prime Minister condoled loss of lives, announced ex-gratia for victims

NATIONAL, November 04, 2024: A bus accident in Uttarakhand's Almora district has resulted in 36 deaths Monday. The 45-seater passenger bus fell into a 200-meter-deep gorge at Marchula while traveling from Pauri to Ramnagar.
The accident occurred around 8.25 am with residents of nearby villages acting as first responders. At least nine passengers died at the scene, while three were airlifted and taken to AIIMS. The bus belonged to Garhwal Motor Owners' Union.
A probe is underway to identify the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the accident and wishes for the swift recovery of all injured. He has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from Prime Ministers National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased in the accident and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Government officials from Almora and Ramnagar are currently on the scene.
