REGIONAL, July 23, 2025: The Health Worker Guide (HWG), Brief Advice Protocol and Tobacco-Free Village (TFV) Guidelines were officially launched in Nagaland during a State-Level Workshop on Strengthening Tobacco Control and Tobacco Cessation. The resources were developed by the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), India.
The Brief Advice Protocol, developed by the Government of Nagaland with technical support from Vital Strategies, New Delhi, aims to equip frontline health workers and community institutions with practical guidance to promote behaviour change, deliver brief cessation advice and support tobacco-free environments.
Vital Strategies has supported the state through technical expertise, capacity building, and policy support. Key technical sessions were delivered by Dr Puneet Chahar, Technical Advisor, who guided participants through topics such as legal frameworks under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA).
The workshop also featured active participation from district-level NTCP teams, stakeholders, the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP), the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) and the Department of School Education.
