Tit for Tat: India expels six senior Canadian diplomats
After Canada linked India’s station officials in murder probe

NATIONAL, October 14, 2024: The Indian government announced Monday that six Canadian diplomats have been ordered to leave the country by October 19. This decision was made in response to Canada's attempt to link Indian diplomats to an investigation into the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Canadian charge d'affaires and announced the expulsion of Stewart Ross Wheeler, Patrick Hebert, Marie Catherine Joly, Ian Ross David Trites, Adam James Chuipka and Paula Orjuela.
India strongly rejected the allegations against High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma in Canada, calling them "preposterous imputations" driven by the political agenda of the Justin Trudeau government. Canada had sent a diplomatic communication to India suggesting that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats were "persons of interest" prompting India to reserve the right to take further steps in response.
