NATIONAL, March 02, 2025: India's Varun Chakravarthy bowled a five-wicket haul to secure a 44-run victory against New Zealand in a Group A match Sunday. New Zealand restricted India to 249-9 with Matt Henry leading their bowling display.
India's Shareyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya scored valuable runs, but India settled for a below-par total. Chakravarthy (5-42) helped India bundle out New Zealand for 205 maintaining their unbeaten run in the tournament.
India will face Australia in the first semi-final in Dubai on Tuesday, while New Zealand will face South Africa in the second semi-final in Lahore. India captain Rohit Sharma praised New Zealand's performance, stating that they played a perfect game.
India's spinner Chakravarthy made an immediate impact in his first match of the tournament earning him the player-of-the-match award. India's spin quarter claimed nine of the 10 New Zealand wickets with Chakravarthy running through the middle and lower order.
