AGARTALA, November 24 2022: The two-day Second Tripura Agar Buyer-Seller Meet 2022 culminated here Thursday. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated the meet at a private hotel Wednesday and the event was graced by the senior officials, particularly from the forest department.
Chief Minister had formally launched Perfume produced from state's own Agar.
45 prospective buyers from Cambodia, Philippines, UAE and France besides some from Indian cities participated. 40 growers of the state displayed different size of agar chips and different types of oil made from the Agar oil in the exhibition organised to commemorate the event.
While speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that the world's best quality agar is produced in India and the state's Agar is of that standard. He lamented that earlier farmers were not getting the right price.
“There was no such policy earlier in place to deal with different aspects of the Agar. Governments in past did not attach importance to it and we are now working to improve production, trade activity and export”, he stated.
Dr Saha called upon the officials to explore more viable opportunities in the Agar sector.
On Thursday, the second day of the Agar Buyer-Seller Meet, held a technical session where buyers and sellers interacted closely.
