AGARTALA, May 02, 2024: This is the first time in the club's 44-year history that Sanghati Club has won the Triple Crown. Since 1980, the Club has been participating in tournaments organised by the Tripura Cricket Association.
While they have previously won the double crown, this is the first time they have achieved the Triple Crown. The credit for this accomplishment goes to Sanjeev Saha's training and leadership.
In the Tapan Smriti Knockout Cricket final Thursday, Sanghati’s payers dominated Cosmopolitan and secured the crown. The Pace Spin attack of Solidarity proved to be too much for Cosmopolitan, resulting in a huge margin of 134 runs in the final.
Cosmopolitan only managed to score 89 runs in response to Sanghati’s 223 runs at the MBB Stadium. Sridam Pal and Arindam Burman, captains of the winning team, both scored fifties. In the morning, after winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Sanghati some early pressure with Jaydeep Banik (9) struggling at the start.
However, Samrat Sutradhar and Sridam Pal's partnership of 40 runs for the second wicket helped the team regain their footing. After the dismissals of Rana Dutt (4) and Saptajit Das (0), the team was once again under pressure.
But Arindam Burman stood strong with Sridam, adding 66 runs for the fifth wicket. Sridam scored 61 runs off 58 balls, including 2 boundaries and 4 sixes, while Arindam scored 43 runs off 43 balls with 8 boundaries and 1 six.
Moksham also contributed with 56 runs. All-rounders Sanjay Majumder and Amresh Das played crucial roles in helping the team reach a respectable total. Sanjay scored 20 runs off 40 balls with 2 boundaries, while Amresh scored 24 runs off 40 balls with 1 boundary.
The team also received 12 runs in extras. Dhanvir Singh took 4 wickets for 22 runs and Vikram Debnath took 2 wickets for 36 runs for Cosmopolitan. In response, Cosmopolitan Club struggled from the start against Sanghati’s pace paced attack.
They were eventually bowled out for 89 runs in 22.5 overs, with 6 wickets falling for only 35 runs. If it weren't for Chandan Roy's resistance, the team may not have even reached 60 runs. Chandan scored 32 runs off 39 balls with 4 boundaries and 1 six.
Other notable contributions came from Vikram Debnath (18 runs off 31 balls with 2 boundaries) and Subhrajit Das (10 runs off 15 balls with 2 boundaries). Samrat Sutradhar took 3 wickets for 21 runs, Sanjay Majumder took 2 wickets for 19 runs, and Chiranjeet Pal took 2 wickets for 23 runs for Sanghati Club.
