GLOBAL, September 12, 2024: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced Thursday that 35 Indian nationals have been released from their engagement with the Russian Army since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Russia. Currently there are still around 50 Indian nationals remaining with the Russian Army and the Indian government is actively working to secure their release, officials said.
This brings the total number of released Indians to 45 with 10 having been discharged before the Prime Minister's visit. It has been reported that these Indians were lured into fighting against Ukraine by international rackets that supply mercenaries.
In many cases, the families of these recruits are unaware of their whereabouts. It is not just India that is affected by this issue, as private soldiers from developing countries around the world are also being absorbed into the Russian military and allied militia forces.
