Rs 160 crore for constructing 60 Primary Rural Markets
Approximately 70% of the state’s population relying on agriculture

AGARTALA, November 04, 2025: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath gave emphasis to the importance of self-reliance in agriculture to drive the state towards overall self-sufficiency during the foundation stone laying of the Tulasikhar Primary Rural Market Tuesday.
He announced a sanction of Rs 160 crore for constructing 60 Primary Rural Markets, each in every assembly constituency. According to the Minister, agriculture is the cornerstone of India, crucial for food security and the economy, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a modern and stable management of agricultural practices.
With approximately 70% of the state’s population relying on agriculture for their livelihood, the Minister underscored the need for developing agricultural infrastructure to achieve self-reliance. Minister said that the government is implementing extensive initiatives to enhance market infrastructure with the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department focusing on developing primary rural markets.
Since 2018, 144 market development projects have been completed in Tripura with NABARD’s support under the RIDF project, amounting to Rs 303 crore, a significant increase compared to the previous administration's expenditure of Rs 20 crore over seven years.
