AGARTALA, November 06, 2025: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Thursday spoke on the critical importance of developing Janajati (tribal) areas for the overall progress of Tripura announcing that over 40% of the state's budget for the financial year 2025–26 allocated for this purpose. He made these remarks during the State Level Toolkits Distribution Ceremony for Skilled Bru Candidates in Dhalai district, where he also inaugurated several new buildings including a school and a fire station in Chawmanu.
Dr Saha underlined the government's commitment to skill training initiatives under various schemes including the Swabalamban Yojana that provides subsidies for auto purchases. He stated that the PM Kaushalya Yojana and Mukhyamantri Dakkhata Yojana focus on improving the skill set of the Reang community.
He underscored the need for sustainable income through skill development rather than merely providing jobs, referencing remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the importance of equipping people with the necessary skills for enduring employment.
He pointed to the longstanding neglect of Bru people's issues before 2018, asserting that significant strides have been made since the BJP came into power. The government’s efforts have included providing toolkits and driving licenses with expenditures totaling Rs 1.45 crore.
“Under the recently launched Tripura Skill and Entrepreneurship Policy 2024, 35,000 candidates are currently receiving training in sectors like AI, Renewable Energy, IT Services, and healthcare, aiming to bolster employment,” he added.
Dr Saha mentioned initiatives to send skilled workers to Japan with youth undergoing language training as part of this programme. He refuted claims from the opposition regarding unemployment problem citing a budget of over 27,000 crore for the prior year, which allocated Rs 6,645 crore for Janajati area development.
Chief Minister reiterated that enhancing Janajati areas is indispensable for the advancement of Tripura and he assured the public of the government's commitment to social and economic development.
