REGIONAL, April 12, 2025: Purabi Dairy, a dairy cooperative in Northeast India, has received ISO 22000 certification for its state-of-the-art milk processing plant in Panjabari, Guwahati and ISO 9001 certification for its cattle-feed plant in Changsari. These certifications are a testament to the growing trust and confidence in Purabi Dairy's quality standards.
The ISO 22000:2018 certification was awarded to the newly-expanded dairy plant, commissioned by NDDB under the World Bank-aided Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART), at a cost of around Rs 49 crore. The ISO certification process was also financed under APART.
The dairy cooperative reported an impressive 25% growth in FY 2024-25, with turnover crossing Rs 320 crore.
Purabi's packaged liquid milk sales increased by over 16% in the last financial year, reinforcing its position as Northeast India's largest dairy cooperative. The sale of milk-based products also surged, with curd growing by 65%, ghee by 55%, paneer by 35%, and cream by 35%.
The cooperative introduced newer products like Purabi Ice Cream and Purabi Flavoured Milk, which gained significant acceptance and popularity among consumers. Purabi Dairy has set an ambitious target of surpassing Rs 450 crore in turnover for FY 2025-26.
The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and WAMUL have agreed to expand the milk processing capacity of the Panjabari plant from 1.5 lakh liters+ per day (LLPD) to 3 LLPD, doubling the plant's capacity.
