NATIONAL, January 03, 2024: President Droupadi Murmu attended the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru Friday. She praised the institute's innovative research, rigorous academic programs and exceptional patient care, making it a leader in mental health and neurosciences.
The Bellary model of community-based mental healthcare has made history and the Tele MANAS platform has served nearly 17 lakh people in their chosen language over the last two years. Murmu noted that mental health issues have received less attention in some societies, but increased awareness has made it easier for patients to seek help.
Murmu appreciated the NIMHANS for integrating traditional methods like Yoga with modern healthcare systems to alleviate mental and physical distress. She emphasized that a healthy mind is the foundation of a healthy society and expressed confidence in the guidance of mental healthcare experts in providing the highest quality care.
NIMHANS has taken initiatives like Tele MANAS for counseling and the SAMVAAD platform for child and adolescent mental health problems.
