NHRC launches its third Online Short Term Internship Programme
100 university students from diverse academic disciplines attended

NATIONAL, September 17, 2024: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) launched Tuesday its third two-week Online Short-Term Internship Programme attracting 100 university-level students from various academic disciplines. The programme, which began in New Delhi, aims to promote and protect human rights by addressing the challenges faced by weaker sections of society.
Secretary General Bharat Lal emphasised the Commission's role as the conscience keeper of society and urged the interns to use the internship to develop empathy and compassion. He also highlighted India's longstanding efforts in protecting human rights including providing refuge to persecuted communities.
The Secretary-General also highlighted legislative measures and policy reforms to protect civil, political, social, and cultural rights, ensuring people's right to live with dignity. The internship includes sessions by renowned speakers, exposure to individual and group activities, and virtual tours to jails, police stations, shelter homes and NGOs.
The programme concludes with a vote of thanks from Lt Col Virender Singh, Director of NHRC. The NHRC is mandated to protect and promote human rights through various activities, including internship programs, collaborative trainings, and awareness activities.
