REGIONAL, April 25, 2024: The 2nd Quarterly National Lok Adalat for the year 2024 will be held on May 11 in all district headquarters in northeast India, along with the rest of the country. The District Legal Services Authority (DLSAs) will facilitate the establishment of Lok Adalat Benches.
Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism where disputes or cases at the pre-litigation stage or pending in court are resolved through compromise. Lok Adalats have been granted statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987.
Under this Act, the decision made by Lok Adalats is considered a decree of a civil court and is final and binding for all parties. No appeal can be made against this decision in any court of law.
There is no court fee required when filing a case in a Lok Adalat. If a case that is already in court is referred to a Lok Adalat and subsequently settled, the court fee originally paid for the complaint or petition will be refunded to the parties.
