MOSCOW, July 09, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Russia's most prestigious civilian honour, the Order of St Andrew the Apostle, by President Vladimir Putin Tuesday. The award recognises Modi's contribution to developing a strategic partnership between Russia and India and fostering friendly ties.
In 1698 by Czar Peter the Great, the award was established in honor of Saint Andrew, the first apostle and patron saint of Russia. Modi expressed confidence in the strengthening of India-Russia ties, stating that they have met 17 times in the last 10 years and 22 bilateral meetings in the last 25 years.
He condemned terrorism and highlighted the importance of cooperation between India and Russia, stating that it has helped Indian farmers and consumers. Modi also praised Russia's support in fulfilling India's petrol and diesel requirements during the global fuel crisis.
Putin thanked Modi for his efforts in finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine and reiterated New Delhi's readiness to assist Moscow in establishing peace in the region.
