Rubber Board showcased breakthrough in Skim Latex Processing

NATIONAL, April 22, 2025: The Rubber Board, established by the Government of India under the Rubber Act 1947, is focusing on improving the quality of rubber products and aiming to make India 'Atmanirbhar' by 2047. The Board has developed an innovative process for recovering high-quality rubber from skim latex, which involves treating skim latex with a specific combination of chemicals over a 24-hour period, followed by acid coagulation.
This method reduces processing time to just 24 hours, minimizes foul odors, and enhances environmental sustainability. The technology is being transferred to the Federation of Latex Processors (FLP) and is branded as Indian Purified Skim Rubber™ (IPSR).
The Rubber Board is also implementing initiatives to benefit rubber growers, tappers, and other stakeholders. The government has increased the budget allocation for the Board to Rs 360.31 crore increased assistance for rubber planting and supported the formation of new Rubber Producers Societies and rubber tapper groups.
