Margherita highlights contribution to handloom sector in NE
Said satisfied with pace of central government project implementations

AGARTALA, October 17, 2024: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita Thursday highlighted the Northeast region's significant contribution to the handloom sector with the highest number of weavers in the country. Margherita visited the Samarth skilling Centre in Mohanpur in west Tripura where the "Samarth" program aims to empower weavers living in rural areas.
The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has linked weavers and handicraft artisans to e-portals for easy procurement and selling. Margherita also held a review meeting in Khowai to discuss progress of centrally sponsored programs under education, healthcare, agriculture, rural connectivity and drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace of central government projects being implemented in the district and suggested improvements in road connectivity and the strengthening of the power sector. Margherita also interacted with women members of Self Help Groups and inaugurated an upgraded Anganwadi Centre at Champacherra.
