REGIONAL, May 09, 2025: The Longrimendang Ao Government High School stands on 3.47-acre land in Tzudikong under the Tuli subdivision donated by the children of the late Longrimendang Ao, a pioneering citizen of Mokokchung town, who hails from Mopungchuket village. The family has also built a sizable rostrum for the school at a cost of twenty lakh rupees.
Although he joined the PWD department in the later part of his life, the late Longrimendang began his career as a teacher, having been sent to Satakha, Zunheboto in 1944, to head a government Middle English school.
With the objective of motivating and encouraging the students of LAGHS to strive for all-round excellence, the family has also instituted two awards-the Academic Award in HSLC for securing the highest marks among 1st divisioners, (certificate and cash of Rs10,000) and the Student of the Year Award (trophy, certificate and cash of Rs 5000).
Dr T Alemla Longkumer, Principal, Mokokchung College of Teacher Education, and the eldest granddaughter of the late Longrimendang Ao, presented the Academic Award to Arentoshi, and the Student of the Year award to Imtisunep on May 9.
At the ceremony, she fondly spoke of her grandfather, a farsighted and generous man, who liberally provided for the best education of both his sons and daughters at a time when daughters were not encouraged to pursue education, especially higher education.
To commemorate his unbiased outlook on education, his daughters and granddaughters have categorically sponsored the Academic Award. Dr Alemla also underscored the need for students to not only contend for success in academics, but to pay attention to holistic development as she presented the Student of the Year Award. She concluded with a call for teachers and students to collaborate effectively with the intention of maximizing overall student performance.
The parents of the students expressed gratitude to the family for the facilities provided for their children to thrive. They said that they took pride in the fact their children were studying at LAGHS!
The school administrators and teachers heartily acknowledged the "sustained support" given by the family because of which all the stakeholders of the school are happy and advancing towards a brighter tomorrow for the students of LAGHS!
