Kuki-Chin people enter Mizoram from Bangladesh Hills

AIZAWL, January 11 2023: Some 212 refugees of Kuki-Chin tribe have taken shelter in Mizoram after Bangladesh army launched counter insurgency operation in Chittagong Hill Tracts. The military operations were reportedly being carried out after Bangladesh government accused a Kuki underground outfit of helping Islamist extremists to set up camps in the hills.
Mizoram Information Minister Lalruatkima, Transport Minister TJ Lalnuntluanga, Commerce & Industries Development Board Vice-Chairman KLaldawngliana, MLA and Vanlalzawma, Ex-MP Wednesday visited Bangladesh Zohnahthlak (Bawm) refugees at Parva-III village in Lawngtlai district.
The leaders distributed cash, food items, water, silpauline, bedding and medicines to inmates of the makeshift camp.
Bangladesh government has not yet commented on exodus of its citizens to the Indian state.
