SHILLONG, March 27 2023: Meghalaya government has prohibited the use of Chinese manjha, nylon, glass-coated and synthetic thread for kite flying as it poses serious threat to humans and environment. Since several accidents have taken place in the past due to the use of such threads, the manufacturer, sale, storage and use of Chinese items are proscribed, the order said.

It said violators shall be penalised under the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 prevention of cruelty to Animals Act 1960 Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 Indian Penal Code and other provisions of law.

The order shall come into force with immediate effect throughout the entire East Khasi Hills District and until further orders.
