J&K: inter-ministerial team to investigate mysterious illness

Death toll rose to 17, police also launched probe from other angles

NATIONAL, January 19, 2025: A high-level inter-ministerial team has arrived in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district to investigate a mysterious illness that has hitherto killed 17 people. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered the formation of an inter-ministerial team to investigate the causes of deaths in three families in the remote Badhaal village.

Yasmeen Kousar, the last of six children of Mohd Aslam, died Sunday evening. Nine other members of two families died between December 7 and 12.

The police have set up a special investigation team to investigate the events from other angles. The 16-member team will work in collaboration with the local administration also to provide immediate relief to the victims.

Experts from reputable institutions have been tasked with understanding the causes of the deaths.
