GLOBAL, June 23, 2025: Iran Monday evening launched missile strikes on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation to the surprise bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites by the US. The move has deepened tensions in the volatile West Asian region. 

Qatar confirmed that the US’s Al Udeid Air Base was targeted by Iranian missiles but said its air defense systems successfully intercepted the attack. The country's foreign ministry reported no casualties and assured that airspace had been secured. 

Iran claimed the number of missiles launched matched the number of bombs dropped by the US in Sunday's operation, suggesting it may be seeking to avoid further escalation. The Al Udeid base is a strategic hub for US and allied operations in West Asia.
