NATIONAL, May 01, 2025: The Election Commission of India has introduced new initiatives to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls and make the voting process more convenient for citizens. These measures align with the vision of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during the Conference of Chief Electoral Officers in the presence of Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi.
The Commission will obtain death registration data electronically from the Registrar General of India (RGI) ensuring timely information for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and allowing Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to re-verify information through field visits.
The design of Voter Information Slips (VIS) will be modified to make them more user-friendly with increased font size and more prominent serial and part numbers. The Commission has also directed all BLOs to be issued standard photo identity cards to ensure confidence in their interactions during voter verification and registration drives.
