India gets 49th rank in the Network Readiness Index 2024

NATIONAL, November 27, 2024: India has risen to 49th rank in the Network Readiness Index 2024 (NRI 2024) report, up from 60th in 2023. The report, published by the Portulans Institute, reveals India's performance in four pillars: Technology, People, Governance and Impact. India has improved its score from 49.93 in 2023 to 53.63 in 2024.
The country has ranked 2nd in the group of lower-middle-income countries after Vietnam, indicating significant digital progress. India's Department of Telecommunications has made significant strides in telecommunications infrastructure with tele-density increasing from 75.2% to 84.69% over the past decade.
Digital India has expanded broadband access to rural areas, resulting in a significant rise in internet subscribers. India also launched 5G services in 2022 improving its global mobile broadband speed ranking from 118 to 15.
India's performance in the NRI 2024 is a testament to its digital progress and innovation, coupled with investment in emerging technologies, impressive data capabilities, and robust telecom infrastructure.
