KOHIMA, January 13, 2024: An All India NCC Trekking Camp is being organizsed at Japfu Christian College in Kigwema of Kohima from January 11 to 18. This is the first of its kind in Nagaland and will include 550 NCC cadets and Instructor staff from various states such as Rajasthan, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and the states in northeast India.
The camp was inaugurated on January 12 at Japfu Christian College by Brigadier Dipankar Saha, Group Commander of NCC Group Kohima and Director of Youth Resources & Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose. A trek was also flagged off by both dignitaries.
In his address to the cadets, Sekhose welcomed them to the serene and culturally rich state of Nagaland and encouraged them to make the most of their time by enjoying the pleasant weather and warmth of the state. The Group Commander emphasized the role of youth in nation building.
The camp aims to expose the cadets, who come from diverse parts of the country, to adventure and push them out of their comfort zones in a controlled manner. The goal is to develop resilience and instill a love for outdoor activities, as well as a sense of accomplishment through successfully completing challenging activities.
The cadets are divided into four groups for daily full-day hikes in the Kigwema and adjoining areas. The scenic Mount Japfu, the second highest peak in Nagaland, will serve as a backdrop for the camp and the cadets will also have the opportunity to hike towards this peak.
They will also have the chance to learn about the cultural heritage and historical significance of the state through a visit to the Kisama Naga Heritage Village.
The camp will conclude on January 18.
