AGARTALA, September 02, 2025: Farmers are crucial to the development of Tripura and the state government aims to boost agriculture, tourism and related sectors like solar and forestry for sustainable growth. Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath mentioned this at an Oil Palm plantation event at the Fatikchhara Tea Garden in west Tripura on Tuesday.
He highlighted that Tripura does not produce enough edible oil and relies on imports, thus draining money. Prime Minister Modi stresses the need for self-reliance on edible oil, he added.
Minister Nath asserted that farmers are essential for Tripura's progress. Before the current government, per capita income was Rs 1.40 lakh, which has now risen to Rs 1.98 lakh with a goal of Rs 3.70 lakh to achieve by 2030.
He said there is also a plan to sign deals with Godrej Agrovet and Patanjali to set up oil palm nurseries and processing centres in various districts ensuring farmers sell their crops directly at farm gates and receive necessary support.
