Doctors, 70 nurses resign in Telangana on PPE issues

HYDERABAD, July 06 2020 (HS): As many as 10 senior doctors and 70 nurses working at various hospitals in the state have resigned due to the lack of protective gear to fight with the deadly Corona virus.
According to sources in the state health department most of those quit were senior doctors were rendering the services at Osmania Medical College (OMC) and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) hospital in Warangal.
The doctors said that they have resigned in protest and also against callous attitude of the higher authorities and due to the poor protection gear supplied to them. Some went on long leave until the pandemic gets over. It may be recalled that in the state of Telangana, 300 doctors and other medical personnel have contracted the virus.
Lack of protection gear and long working hours were even forcing the doctors to go on strike. Some have joined private hospitals for treatment as government hospitals were overcrowded.
